Course Modules 

This SENCo Level 1 course supports early years practitioners to understand what SEND means, recognise early developmental red flags, and embed inclusive practice across everyday routines.
Learners will build confidence in observing and recording concerns, working sensitively with families, understanding legal duties under the EYFS 2025 and Equality Act 2010, and knowing when and how to involve the SENCO and follow referral pathways.
Ideal for practitioners who want to strengthen inclusion, reduce barriers to learning, and ensure every child feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Module 1 – What SEND Means in Early Years
Explains what SEND is, the different areas of need, and how inclusive practice supports every child’s development.
Module 2 – Early Identification & Developmental Red Flags
Develops skills in recognising early signs of SEND through observation of communication, play, sensory processing, and emotional regulation.
Module 3 – Foundations of Inclusive Early Years Practice
Shows how to remove barriers to learning through visual supports, predictable routines, environmental adjustments, and emotionally attuned practice.
Module 4 – Working With Families & Building Trust
Builds confidence in sharing concerns sensitively, communicating without judgement, and forming strong partnerships with families.
Module 5 – Referral Awareness and Early SEN Processes
Clarifies the practitioner’s role in noticing patterns, recording evidence, sharing concerns with the SENCO, and supporting the Graduated Approach.
Module 6 – Legal Duties, Equality Act & Safeguarding Links
Explains practitioners’ legal responsibilities under the EYFS and Equality Act, and how SEND intersects with safeguarding practice.
Module 7 – Working With Families in a Respectful, Supportive Way
Deepens understanding of how to support parents emotionally, respect cultural differences, and maintain child-centred communication.
Module 8 – Understanding the Graduated Approach (Basic Level)
Introduces the Assess–Plan–Do–Review cycle and the practitioner’s contribution under SENCO guidance.
Module 9 – Knowing When to Seek Help & Referral Pathways
Guides practitioners on when and how to escalate concerns appropriately while maintaining professional boundaries.
Module 10 – Embedding Inclusion in Daily Practice
Shows how to make inclusion a daily mindset through flexible routines, co-regulation, visual supports, and reflective practice.
