- Module 1 – Introduction to the Course
Introduces the role of the DSL and sets expectations for safeguarding leadership in group and school-based early years settings. - Module 2 – Understanding the Requirements of Your DSL Role
Explains statutory duties under EYFS, WTSC and KCSIE and how DSLs lead safeguarding culture. - Module 3 – Identifying Abuse and Taking Timely Action
Develops confidence in recognising abuse indicators and acting promptly to protect children. - Module 4 – Contextual Safeguarding
Explores how risks outside the home, including peer groups and environments, affect children. - Module 5 – Peer on Peer Abuse
Builds understanding of child-on-child abuse and how to respond safely and lawfully. - Module 6 – Prevent Duty
Guides DSLs in identifying radicalisation risks and embedding British Values in daily practice. - Module 7 – Online Safety
Covers DSL responsibilities for filtering, monitoring, and responding to online harm. - Module 8 – Leading a Culture of Child-Centred Practice
Shows how DSLs create safeguarding cultures where vigilance and curiosity are embedded. - Module 9 – Empowering the Child’s Voice
Strengthens skills in hearing, recording, and acting on children’s wishes, feelings, and behaviours. - Module 10 – SEND & Inclusion
Examines safeguarding responsibilities for children with additional and communication needs. - Module 11 – Disclosures and Allegations Made by Children
Teaches how to respond appropriately when children share safeguarding concerns. - Module 12 – Working With Families
Develops professional curiosity and partnership working while keeping children safe. - Module 13 – Foundations of Working Together to Safeguard Children
Explains statutory expectations and how DSLs apply multi-agency guidance in practice. - Module 14 – Trauma-Informed Practice
Explores ACEs, trauma responses, and how DSLs lead compassionate safeguarding. - Module 15 – Thresholds, Referrals & Multi-Agency Working
Builds confidence in using thresholds and escalating concerns appropriately. - Module 16 – Assessing Need in Safeguarding Practice
Introduces the Safety Scale and Assessment Triangle to support decision-making. - Module 17 – Understanding Thresholds & Making Referrals
Supports DSLs to distinguish between Early Help, Child in Need and Child Protection. - Module 18 – Multi-Agency Working & Sharing Information
Clarifies when and how information must be shared to protect children. - Module 19 – Record Keeping, Evidence & Data Protection
Ensures DSLs maintain inspection-ready safeguarding records in line with UK GDPR. - Module 20 – Safer Recruitment
Explains how robust recruitment prevents unsuitable adults from working with children. - Module 21 – Managing Allegations Against Staff
Guides DSLs in working with the LADO and responding lawfully to staff allegations. - Module 22 – Whistleblowing – Speaking Up for Safeguarding
Supports the promotion of safe reporting culture and whistleblower protection. - Module 23 – Reflective Safeguarding Practice & Supervision
Shows how reflective supervision strengthens safeguarding leadership and staff wellbeing.
