Module Contents

This Level 2 SENCO course develops skilled early years practitioners to apply the Graduated Approach in depth, lead high-quality SEND support planning, work confidently with families under pressure, adapt inclusive environments, and contribute robust evidence for referrals, inspections and EHC needs assessment processes.
Module 1 – Broad Areas of Need and Deeper SEND Knowledge
Builds in-depth understanding of the four broad areas of need and how to link accurate observations to effective SEND support planning.
Module 2 – Applying the Graduated Approach Professionally
Develops practitioner skill in delivering high-quality Assess–Plan–Do–Review cycles with meaningful documentation, family involvement and evidence-based practice.
Module 3 – Working With Families Under Pressure
Strengthens confidence in co-production, sensitive communication and managing complex parent conversations while maintaining trust and professionalism.
Module 4 – Using the Local Offer and Multi-Agency Working
Explores how to use the Local Offer and collaborate with external professionals to enhance SEND provision and family support.
Module 5 – Record Keeping, Evidence, and Ofsted Expectations
Builds understanding of robust documentation, evidence gathering and how SEND practice is evaluated through inspection.
Module 6 – Constructing and Leading Support Plans (APDR)
Teaches how to write, implement and review high-quality SEND support plans using the Assess–Plan–Do–Review cycle.
Module 7 – Leading Inclusive Environments and Coaching Staff
Develops leadership skills to shape inclusive environments and coach teams in reflective, sensory-aware, child-centred practice.
Module 8 – Medical Conditions & Reasonable Adjustments
Builds confidence in meeting legal duties for children with medical needs through Individual Healthcare Plans and reasonable adjustments.
Module 9 – When and How to Request an EHC Needs Assessment
Provides awareness of EHC needs assessments, practitioner evidence roles and when escalation beyond SEN Support may be considered.
Module 10 – Supporting Transitions & Preparation for School
Strengthens practitioner understanding of SEND pathways, the Local Offer and how to ensure continuity of provision during key transitions.
