How this Level 3 DSL course complies with EYFS

The EYFS Annex C states DSL training must cover...

  1. How to build a safe organisational culture: This course equips leaders to embed a culture of vigilance, professional curiosity, reflective supervision, and child-centred practice so safeguarding becomes lived, not just written.
  2. How to ensure safe recruitment: The Safer Recruitment module trains DSLs to oversee robust vetting, induction, and monitoring processes that keep unsuitable adults out of early years provision.
  3. How to develop and implement safeguarding policies and procedures: Policy and procedure leadership is threaded throughout the course, ensuring DSLs can not only write but actively monitor, test, and embed safeguarding policies in daily practice.
  4. If applicable, how to support and work with other practitioners to safeguard children: Modules on leadership, supervision, and working with families give DSLs the skills to coach, guide, and support their team in safeguarding responsibilities.
  5. Local child protection procedures and liaising with statutory agencies: This course covers thresholds, referrals, and multi-agency working, enabling DSLs to confidently engage with Children’s Services, the LADO, and safeguarding partners.
  6. How to refer and escalate concerns: Practical modules walk DSLs through making timely referrals, using local thresholds, and following escalation protocols to ensure no child slips through the gaps.
  7. How to manage and monitor allegations of abuse against staff: A dedicated module on managing allegations explains thresholds for LADO referral, record keeping, HR processes, and safeguarding-first decisions.
  8. How to ensure internet safety: The Online Safety & Filtering module prepares DSLs to oversee filtering systems, digital policies, staff training, and partnership with families to protect children from online harm.
