Ofsted has published the latest management information on area SEND inspections.
Why it matters: If you support children with SEND, you’ll want to know how local areas are performing and what strengths/weaknesses inspectors are highlighting.
Action: Review your SEND provision.
Are you evidencing how children’s needs are identified, supported, and reviewed?
Registration delays: There are currently significant delays in processing new children’s home applications.
If you’re applying, expect a longer wait.
Data corrections:
Ofsted has updated inspection outcomes and provider data for children’s homes and fostering/adoption agencies.
Framework changes: From 1 September 2025, the Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF) for fostering and adoption agencies will include updated terminology and criteria.
👉 Action: If you work with fostering or adoption services, ensure your policies reflect the new language and expectations.
1. Childcare & Education Expo – MidlandsOfsted will be at the Coventry CBS Arena on 26–27 September 2025.
A great chance to hear directly from inspectors about reforms and inspection priorities.
2. Outcome Summaries
Updated guidance confirms Ofsted will now publish a summary whenever action is taken due to a breach of registration requirements.
Read the Ofsted blog: Understanding outcome summaries.
👉 Action: Make sure your compliance is watertight. Breaches won’t just be private—they’ll be published.
3. Focus on the First Two Years
Ofsted’s new report Getting it right from the start highlights the importance of how practitioners support babies and toddlers.
They’ve even released a podcast episode discussing the findings.
👉 Action: Reflect on your baby room practice. Are you promoting strong attachment, communication, and early development?
4. Complaints & Notifications Data
Ofsted has shared 5 years’ worth of data on complaints and notifications against early years providers.
Useful for spotting patterns in what providers are being pulled up for.
👉 Action: Review your complaints procedure and safeguarding notifications. Are you confident your process matches EYFS 2025 requirements?
State-funded school inspection outcomes have been updated to July 2025.
A new inspection framework webinar for primary schools will be held on 2 October 2025 (4–5pm).
👉 Action: If you feed into local schools, keep connected. Framework changes in schools often influence how inspectors view early years transitions too.
The EYFS September 2025 changes raise the bar for safeguarding and compliance.
Ofsted’s newsletter highlights two key themes you can’t ignore:
- Transparency – breaches, complaints, and outcomes will be published more openly.
- Early support – especially in the first two years of a child’s life.
That means you need to:
- Keep policies and procedures fully EYFS 2025 compliant
- Train your team (or yourself as a DSL) to inspection-ready standards
- Evidence how you’re meeting children’s needs, especially around safeguarding and SEND
To make this easier, we’ve created:
- A Safeguarding Policy & Procedures Template fully aligned with EYFS September 2025.
- An EYFS-compliant Level 3 DSL course – in-depth, on-demand, and engaging, with bitesize video learning and assessments throughout.
